Imam Ali Popular – Students Relief Society (IAPSRS) was founded in 1999 with the objective of extending assistance to the needy people and in particular to women and children suffering from unemployment, hunger, and lack of educational facilities. Some ten years ago, this Society was composed of its founder and a number of Sharif University student who started their activities in their first office at the university. Since the same time, the student members of the Society took action to register the Society as an NGO with the Iran Ministry of Interior. Afterwards, they expanded their activities by opening more offices for the Society under the name of Iranian Houses in different slums in Tehran and other cities of Iran. Currently there are seven active Iranian houses operating in Tehran vicinity. Furthermore, IAPSRS has had several other programs including Street Wonderer Lovers, Teaching Love Program, Muslim's Children, Children of Affection, Fatima plan, etc. All these projects are in conformity with other NGOs' objectives concerning social development activities and poverty eradication. The most important mandate of the Society is to pay attention to the social difficulties, scrutinize them, take needed actions in relevant areas wherever necessary, and describe correcting and preventing measures with regard to children in need of such measures in the long run. To achieve this goal, the Society has adopted the strategy of utilizing national and religious rites, rituals, and traditional ceremonies of Iran and other countries and has conformed them to the modern needs of societies to reduce social difficulties. This is an innovation concerning modalities of social reforms. IAPSRS is the first "intelligent" social organization in Iran. By "intelligent social organization" we, firstly, mean that this organization looks at the society as a whole with interacting components. That is to say when a problem is faced with in the society; it may be rooted in phenomena not directly causing such a problem. For instance, where a child commits an action against the law, his action may have its roots in his incorrect trainings for which he cannot be held responsible. Hence, focusing on education may indirectly cause to reduce unlawful behavior among juveniles. The other definition which completes the first one concerning "intelligent charitable organization" is the way the Society provides its assistance and interacts with charitable people and its volunteer members, on one hand, and the needy and people who somehow suffer from a problem in the community. This interaction is such that anyone in any part of his activities in the Society can choose the type of activity or assistance he/she, as a member of the whole Society, likes and continues or monitors provision of the services or dispatching procedure of the assistance until it reaches the defined target in the last stage. He/she can even personally extend the service to be rendered or the assistance item to be donated to the target person, by observing the existing standards of the Society, if there is no security or other risk. This interaction builds confidence in charitable people and they may easily offer their donations to the assistance seeking families through this "intelligent structure". Likewise, Society members can take part in programs and projects in conformity with their interests and abilities and observe the effects of their social activities in the shortest time possible. It is obvious that this "intelligent structure" along with presence of charitable people and Society members will help resolving the problems of needy families and will cause realizing the difficulties of society in a proper manner. This book is a comprehensive report of all activities of IAPSRS and represents what we do and what we have done in the recent years.
